Regenerative Medicine Pre-Procedure Instructions

Stop all anti-inflammatory medications (Ibuprofen, Aleve, Advil, Celebrex, Naproxen, etc.), and supplements (fish, oils, turmeric, ginseng, etc.) for 7 days prior to the procedure. You may resume them 7 days after the PRP procedure and after 1 month if regenerative cells are done. You do NOT have to stop taking aspirin, acetaminophen, or any other daily medications.

If you are on statins (i.e. cholesterol-lowering meds such as Lipitor, Crestor, etc.) we ask you stop these 3 weeks prior to the regenerative cell injection. Be sure you speak with your cardiologist or prescribing provider about whether it is safe to stop these meds. In some cases of recent heart issues, stroke, or stent placement your doctor may recommend you wait before stopping these medications. Also, if unable to stop statin meds, there is literature that shows decreased effectiveness of the regenerative cells if they are not stopped prior to a regenerative cell procedure. There is a blog article with references on DrJohnUrse.com

Finally, you MAY RESUME statins (cholesterol-lowering meds) ONE week after your regenerative cell procedure. No stoppage of any medications are needed for a PRP injection alone.

If you are currently on Coumadin, Plavix, Lovenox, Pradaxa, or other blood thinners, we ask that you speak to your PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN/Specialist and receive their permission to discontinue for 3 days prior to treatment. You may resume the evening after treatment. You understand the risk of stopping these medications may lead to significant illness or even death.

Alert the staff if you have an allergy to anesthetics such as Lidocaine, latex, bandages, or skin preparation solutions.

We recommend the night before the regenerative cell procedure that you use anti-bacterial soap to wash your whole body, and that you drink plenty of fluids that day with your normal routine. Please wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes, sports bra, shorts and underwear depending on the site to be treated. You may want to bring a crutch or walking stick to the office.

If you are having this performed in the office, please ensure that you have someone with you to drive you home. You may take a pain medication or anti-anxiety pill, such as Valium or Xanax one hour prior to the procedure. Do not plan on returning to work that day, and it is best to take a few days off, or at least plan light duties or work from home. You will also be given a few pain pills to take as needed. Tylenol is always best to start with, taking 1000 mg every 6 – 8 hours. Don’t exceed 4000 mg / day of Tylenol (acetaminophen).

New Treatments - New Technology

An initial consultation can explore individualized treatment plans, which may help avoid surgery or be used as an adjunct to a planned procedure. A determination can be made if the procedure is to be done in an office or in a hospital setting. Procedure costs will vary based upon your insurance, co-pays, deductibles, whether one or two body areas are chosen, and where your particular procedure is performed. To schedule a consultation, call 937-415-9100. Appointments can generally be scheduled within one or two days.
