Orthopedic Regenerative Cell Treatment

About Regenerative Cells

Regenerative cells are the most powerful cells we have to increase healing and dramatically reduce inflammation and discomfort. There are over 20-times the growth and anti-inflammatory factors compared to PRP alone. They are taken using a bone marrow aspiration (BMA), from the back of your pelvis. This simple procedure is performed by a physician, usually in the office as a 45 min procedure. Patients also have the option of doing the procedure in a hospital setting, with light anesthesia and vital signs monitoring.

About Regenerative Cell Treatment

Regenerative cells are the most powerful cells we have to increase healing and dramatically reduce inflammation and discomfort. There are over 20-times the growth and anti-inflammatory factors compared to PRP alone. They are taken using a bone marrow aspiration (BMA), from the back of your pelvis. This simple procedure is performed by a physician, usually in the office as a 45 min procedure. Patients also have the option of doing the procedure in a hospital setting, with light anesthesia and vital signs monitoring.

About your procedure:

Office Based

Prior to being driven to the office, you will have been prescribed a pain or anxiety medication. Take this an hour before you plan to arrive. There is slight discomfort/pressure in obtaining the bone marrow that is minimized by using a local anesthetic (like Novocaine at your dentist), which will last for a few hours. We will also place an anesthetic in the area to which the Regenerative Cells will be injected. Both procedures will be performed with ultrasound guidance to assure placement accuracy.
Plan on an hour or two for the entire time allocation in the office setting. Small bandages are placed in both areas, and are left in place for 24 hours, after which showering is permitted.

Outpatient Facility or Hospital

You will be given IV sedation or anesthesia similar to what you receive for a colonoscopy, and your vital signs will be monitored by an anesthesia specialist. You should have very little, if any, recollection of the procedure itself. The entire hospital time may take a few hours, as it is coordinated with other procedures that day.

In either the office or outpatient facility, the blood is placed into a centrifuge device that will separate the regenerative cells from the bone marrow. The regenerative cells will then be injected with ultrasound guidance back into the area of injury to aid in natural healing.

In many instances a blood draw from the arm for platelets (PRP) may be added to a regenerative cell procedure. This adds cells from blood that has additional healing factors.

New Treatments - New Technology

An initial consultation can explore individualized treatment plans, which may help avoid surgery or be used as an adjunct to a planned procedure. A determination can be made if the procedure is to be done in an office or in a hospital setting. Procedure costs will vary based upon your insurance, co-pays, deductibles, whether one or two body areas are chosen, and where your particular procedure is performed. To schedule a consultation, call 937-415-9100. Appointments can generally be scheduled within one or two days.
